Eating at the Cathedral

We have four styles of catering at the Cathedral to suit your every need and occasion – 2 public eating places: The Mezzanine Café Bar and the Refectory and 2 ways to accommodate private and occasion dining: in The Western Rooms function suite and large civic receptions and dining in the Main Cathedral.

Mezzanine Café Bar

Our newly opened contemporary ‘light bite’ café bar where you can meet and eat, and enjoy a brand new view of the Cathedral! Built above the shop, this 40-seater café gets you up close to the previously obscured beautiful stained glass window of the North-West Transept and affords a new perspective of the Baptistery and our famous Nave Bridge.

Our food philosophy is simple

We source as much of our food and drink from local producers and fair-trade suppliers. We offer freshly-made patisserie, salads with speciality breads and a selection of bagels, wraps, baguettes and panini of the highest quality. Choose from our freshly ground, bean to cup fair-trade coffee, specialty teas, fruit presses or smoothies. You can buy our special ‘Cathedral blend’ coffee downstairs in the Cathedral Shop.

Work and eat

We offer free wireless broadband internet access on the mezzanine, just let us know at the till point!

Child friendly

For our smallest customers we offer bottle-warming and nappy-changing facilities close-by.

Disabled access

There is a lift from the ground floor up to the mezzanine and our toilets have disabled access.

REFECTORY

This very popular cafe has been completely refurbished. In its upgraded surroundings Steve Fitzgerald, our Catering Manager, and his team are committed to offering delicious, home-cooked food including a hand-carved roasted joint on a Sunday. The patio area in the Welsford Porch has new furniture, handrails and planting to enhance the al fresco dining experience.

GROUP BOOKINGS AND RESERVATIONS

We welcome group bookings and reservations. A group tour incorporating The Great Space, the Tower Experience or a guided tour by one of experienced cathedral Guides can be combined with a number of different catering packages, but booking is essential.
