We’re looking forward to opening our doors once again to welcome you back on the 96th anniversary of our consecration and 116 years since our foundation stone was laid.

The second phase of our reopening continues with our annual Consecration Service at 10:30 am on 19 July. Places are limited to maintain physical distance guidelines. You can book your place here. Then welcoming visitors after 12 noon.

While we’ve been closed, behind the scenes there has a flurry of activity as our staff and volunteers prepare our historic Grade 1 listed building to make sure it’s ready, with systems in place to keep our worshippers, visitors and Cathedral people safe.

The decision to reopen was not taken lightly, to keep everyone coming into our Cathedral safe, we are

  • Introducing a one-way system
  • Asking visitors and service-goers to book in advance
  • Limiting the number of people allowed inside in the Cathedral at any one time
  • Changing our opening hours
  • Providing hand sanitisers points
  • Installing new signage to direct and remind visitors of the safety measures.

The Dean of Liverpool, The Very Revd Dr Sue Jones said:

“We want people to enjoy our building and we want them to do this safely so, like so many great Liverpool venues, the way you encounter us will be different. But you will still encounter a warm welcome as you come back to one of the buildings that people right across Liverpool and beyond love.

“I have missed so many encounters with our visitors over the last few months so it feels great to be welcoming people back. And to be able to more fully open our doors with public worship on the anniversary of our consecration seems fitting and right.”

Liverpool Cathedral closed its doors on 23 March. Since then we've responded to the crisis in creative and innovative ways; offering a wide range of support – practical and spiritual to the community, both online and off.

Please note: Friends' Evensong and AGM which were to be held on Sunday 19 July 2020 have been postponed.
