Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 5 September

Welcome from Dean Sue

Welcome back to the Cathedral’s e-news. I hope you had a good summer and managed a holiday. Some of the clergy still have holidays to come and so remember them and others as they seek refreshment.

One person from the team who is about to leave us is Nelson Pike. Nelson is due to return to his home in the United States on September 11th. Nelson has been with us for two years. He has worked in the office, in Micah and contributed fully to the worshipping life of the Cathedral. We will miss him enormously. He has been a great member of the team, working tirelessly on clergy rotas and this e-news amongst other things.

On Sunday we will have the opportunity to thank him as a Cathedral Community for his work, his humour and his commitment to the Cathedral. We wish him well as he continues his vocational discernment and we thank him for being such a wonderful colleague.

Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for Nelson’s ministry in this place and we pray for him as he journeys on to the next stage in his vocation and ministry. Keep him safe, and nourish him with the bread of life. We ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Dean Sue

Supper with the Scriptures – “Jumping into James”

Our informal series of Bible Studies will re-start on October 4th and then continue on Monday evenings through the autumn. We will look at the book of James, a letter with lots of practical application, and which speaks powerfully to our own times. 7-8.15pm on Zoom. All sessions are stand-alone. For more details, please visit: exploring faith

Encountering Faith – “Revelation revealed”

Our ‘deep dive’ series of Bible Studies is taking a break in September but will continue on Thursday evenings in October and November, as we look in-depth at Revelation, the last book of the Bible. 7-8.15pm on Zoom. All sessions are stand-alone, and supported with handouts. For more details, please visit: exploring faith

Confirmation Service – Sunday 7th November 2021

We are delighted that the Bishop of Liverpool will be joining us this November to preside at a Confirmation service. Confirmation is the occasion when we can confirm the promises made by us or for us at Baptism in a special service in which the Bishop lays hands on our heads to ask for God’s continuing blessing and anointing of the Holy Spirit. If you are interested in being confirmed, then please speak to Canon Philip, if you are part of the Music Department, or Canon Neal if you are part of the wider Cathedral community.

Community Roll

We are in the process of updating our Community Roll, the list of members of the Cathedral, including those who live further away but who retain an active interest. It can also include people who join us on-line for worship, discipleship and other activities. It has been a very valuable resource for the clergy through lockdown, to help us keep in touch. If you are not on the Roll, or need to update your details, please go to the link below, to complete and submit the simple form linked here: https://liverpoolcathedral.beaconforms.com/form/c2255dbe

Thank you. If you have any queries, then please contact Canon Neal on neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.

A Choir for Every Age

We are recruiting singers to our choirs: Cathedral Junior Choir (ages 6-11), Gilbert Scott Singers (11-18) and Liverpool64 (SATB choir for 18+).  The Junior Choir and Gilbert Scott Singers are rehearsing in-person again, and Liverpool64 should be returning imminently. To discuss joining a choir, email: stephen.mannings@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
