This week’s News from Liverpool Cathedral – a Place of Encounter

Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 18 April, 2021.
Welcome from Dean Sue
A very warm welcome to Liverpool Cathedral e-news on the 3 Sunday of Easter. Our Gospel reading today is the Emmaus journey. It’s the journey of the Christian life.
How often have we walked through life and not recognised Christ walking with us?
The reading tells us of the importance of reading the Scriptures, sharing Holy Communion and telling the story of our faith.
This Diocese of Liverpool has a rule of life and in that rule we are encouraged to read, to learn and to pray so that we can go out into the world and tell, serve and give (https://liverpool.anglican.org/RuleOfLife).
The Emmaus journey helps us to reflect on the risen Christ in our lives and to think about our responsibility to nurture and feed ourselves through the reading of Scripture and the breaking of bread so that we can tell people about God’s love and work in the world.
Cathedral Company Zoom Call
It has been good to enjoy conversation over Zoom with some of you on Sunday mornings after 10:30am Eucharists. With more people coming to the services in-person, inevitably fewer people are joining us on Zoom now. So today’s (18th April) Zoom Call will be the last one.
Worship with us this week

Zone 2
Zone 2 has just celebrated its tenth anniversary as a cafe-style service for all ages. We give thanks for the remarkable fruitfulness from Zone 2 in that time, both within the Cathedral and also in the Diocese through the Joshua Centre.
However, on Easter Day 2021, it closed its ‘virtual’ doors. Since the beginning of Covid-19 restrictions, Zone 2 has been faithfully and creatively on-line with a live-hosted service most Sundays. You can still view these on the Zone 2 FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/welcometozone2/.
The team has found it both exhilarating but quite exhausting trying to maintain the challenge of taking a very participatory service on-line; especially given the current additional challenges with personal, family and professional responsibilities in their lives. As a result, we have decided that we need to allow the team to have a break from Zone 2 and to take some time out for their own refreshment.
The picture several of the team has had is from John 12:24 – of the seed falling to the ground and ‘dying’. But with the promise of new life springing from it at some point in the future. At this time, we do not know what that ‘new life’ will look like and when it will start to sprout. Please pray with us all as, waiting upon God, we discern that over the coming months.
If you have any questions or comments about Zone 2, please contact Canon Neal on: neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk.
