This week’s News from Liverpool Cathedral – a Place of Encounter

Catch up on the latest news from Liverpool Cathedral for Sunday, 25th October 2020.
Welcome from Dean Sue
A very warm welcome to Liverpool Cathedral E-news. We are now entering our second weekend of Tier 3 Lockdown in Liverpool. I hope that whether you are worshipping with us in person or on line you will feel something of the love of God. God travels with us through the good and the challenging times and as we continue to journey through this pandemic we hope you will find comfort from our Worship. We also hope that you will spend time preparing for Sunday Worship through our Prayer Resources and that you engage in studying the scriptures through Supper for the Scriptures or Breakfast with the Bible.
Sunday Preparation and Worship
The pre-recorded Sunday service, along with the preparation documents on the Gospel reading by our Canon Theologian, are to be found on our prayer blog, Prayer for Liverpool: https://www.prayerforliverpool.org/.

Next Week: Special Memories Service: 3pm Sunday 1st November 2020
A service of prayers, music, readings, candlelight and reflection to help us remember in different ways. Remember those who have lost lives during the pandemic and continue to do so; and also remember and give thanks for all that people have done and are doing to support and help others in these challenging times. There will be an opportunity to light candles before and during the service. As with all our Sunday services at this time, booking is necessary – please see the website for details: Liverpool Cathedral. The service will be complemented by voice and video recordings of reflections from those taking part in the service and others (to be hosted on our website).

We are delighted to be hosting a lecture given by Laurence Westgaph, from the International Slavery Museum, entitled “Liverpool – the Church and its links to slavery”. Micah Donations
Micah Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral’s food bank and social justice charity, has been operating non-stop since the beginning of lockdown. Our team has seen a sharp increase in Food Bank patronage, and has been grateful for the strong support of the Cathedral community. At the moment, ground or instant coffee, cereal, and nappies are in short supply. If you are able to donate, food items or financial donations are gratefully accepted at the Constables’ Lodge. Thank you! To learn more about Micah’s work, visit their website via this link: https://micahliverpool.com/.
Encountering Faith
If you want to dig deep into the Bible, please join us for a series on the book of Philippians on-line every Thursday, either at1-2pm or repeated at 7-8pm. You can find more information on the following link to the relevant page of our website: /getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Supper with the Scriptures
Every Monday evening, 7-8pm on Zoom, we gather with our ‘Supper’ to discuss some part of the Bible. At the moment, we are working through the Acts of the Apostles. A great way to start to get into the Bible. You can find more information on the following link to the relevant page of our website:
/getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Micah Liverpool Community Markets at Liverpool Cathedral
Micah Liverpool now runs two community market sessions at Liverpool Cathedral on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am - 2:30pm outside on the Welsford Porch. All are welcome to purchase food and household supplies at heavily reduced prices. Proceeds from the markets will go towards our other Micah programs. Please note that guests should try to bring their own bags if possible. To learn more about Micah’s work in and around Liverpool, take a look at their website: https://micahliverpool.com/.
Prayer Requests
Our ‘Prayer Wall’, set up at the start of the pandemic, is still live. You can post prayer requests to us at:
https://www.prayerforliverpool.org/.
Enjoy a coffee break at the Mezz in the Well
Instead of the Welsford and Mezzanine Cafe you can enjoy a Joe Black Coffee and a selection of delicious food in our pop-up cafe The Mezz in the Well. Enjoy fine food in a socially distanced space in the fine surroundings of the Well of our Cathedral.
Cathedral Shop
It won’t be too long before we will be writing out our Christmas cards! Make us your destination for Christmas card purchases this year, along with Cards for Good Causes we will have the largest selection of charity cards, available now.
Are you up for a challenge? The Cathedral shop has a new range of 1000 piece Jigsaw’s available including a wonderful Liverpool Landmarks puzzle. This range is one of many available online – why not come in for a browse: www.cathedralshop.com.
All profits from the shop directly support the ever increasing work of Liverpool Cathedral.
Donate to Liverpool Cathedral
Please consider making a donation to the Cathedral in these very challenging times. We estimate the financial impact of Covid to be a loss of around £650k. We have received funding of c £400k but it’s still a huge financial challenge for us. Within this we have noticed a significant fall in levels of congregational giving (down by over £20,000 so far this year). We’d be very happy to talk to you in more detail about how you can support us.
If you’d like to support our work then you can easily make a donation at
