A very warm welcome to Liverpool Cathedral E newsletter. On Sunday we shall be marking the beginning of the legal year with our online legal service. Usually the Cathedral is full of people representing the legal system of our country, but this year it is quite different as we mark the beginning of the legal year virtually. I hope you will take the opportunity to watch the service which can be found here: /about-us/news/the_legal_service_2020 and that you will pray for all those who represent the legal profession and all those who keep us safe.
Sunday is also St Luke’s Day. Saint Luke is the patron Saint of Physicians and so in Liverpool Cathedral and in Cathedrals throughout England we shall be praying also for the health care professionals as they face another spike in Covid 19.
Loving God,
your Son Jesus Christ came that we might have life and have it abundantly;
pour out your blessing upon our nation;
where there is illness,
bring your healing touch;
where there is fear,
strengthen us with the knowledge of your presence;
where there is uncertainty,
build us up in faith;
where there is dishonesty,
lead us into truth;
where there is discord,
may we know the harmony of your love;
this we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Online: Legal Service, Sunday 18th October 2020
This years’ service to mark the beginning of the Legal Year is to be held virtually. The link to the service will be available on the Cathedral website on Sunday 18th October at 10.30am: /about-us/news/the_legal_service_2020. The preacher at the service will be The Right Reverend Philip North, Bishop of Burnley.
The Cathedral Eucharist will be celebrated in the Cathedral at 10.30am as normal.
Special Memories Service: 3pm Sunday 1st November 2020
A service of prayers, music, readings, candlelight and reflection to help us remember in different ways. Remember those who have lost lives during the pandemic and continue to do so; and also remember and give thanks for all that people have done and are doing to support and help others in these challenging times. There will be an opportunity to light candles before and during the service. As with all our Sunday services at this time, booking is necessary – please see the website for details: Liverpool Cathedral. The service will be complemented by voice and video recordings of reflections from those taking part in the service and others (to be hosted on our website).
Encountering Faith
If you want to dig deep into the Bible, please join us for a series on the book of Philippians on-line every Thursday, either at1-2pm or repeated at 7-8pm. You can find more information on the following link to the relevant page of our website: /getting-involved/Exploring-Faith.
Supper with the Scriptures
Every Monday evening, 7-8pm on Zoom, we gather with our ‘Supper’ to discuss some part of the Bible. At the moment, we are working through the Acts of the Apostles. A great way to start to get into the Bible. You can find more information on the following link to the relevant page of our website:

Micah Liverpool Community Markets at Liverpool Cathedral
Micah Liverpool now runs two community market sessions at Liverpool Cathedral on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am - 2:30pm outside on the Welsford Porch. All are welcome to purchase food and household supplies at heavily reduced prices. Proceeds from the markets will go towards our other Micah programs. Events at Liverpool Cathedral
The Cathedral Events team are delighted to announce that the Cathedral is now able to offer limited catering services. The Welsford restaurant is now operating in the Well, compliant with all Government and Church of England guidelines. Hot drinks and a limited selection of sandwiches, salads, and treats are available for purchase. Come and enjoy a cuppa while seated in the Well and enjoy the magnificent space to ensure adequate social distancing. Cathedral Shop
It won’t be too long before we will be writing out our Christmas cards! Make us your destination for Christmas card purchases this year, along with Cards for Good Causes we will have the largest selection of charity cards, available from early October.

Donate to Liverpool Cathedral
Please consider making a donation to the Cathedral in these very challenging times. We estimate the financial impact of Covid to be a loss of around £650k. We have received funding of c £400k but it’s still a huge financial challenge for us. Within this we have noticed a significant fall in levels of congregational giving (down by over £20,000 so far this year).
