A very warm welcome to Liverpool Cathedral e-news. Sunday, is a special day in the life of the Cathedral as we celebrate the Consecration of the Building. I am so grateful to Bishop Paul for being with us today as we celebrate Consecration Sunday. Bishop Paul has stepped in at the last moment due to our guest preacher being sick. It is so appropriate to have our Bishop with us this morning as we celebrate and as we remember the first consecration of this building. It is hard to imagine that ninety-seven years ago people came from all over the country to sanctify and bless this Cathedral for worship. The past ninety-seven years has seen much joy and sorrow in the city and in the Cathedral.
The last year has been like no other in the life of the Cathedral and we are so grateful to the Choral Scholars and the Organ Scholars who have provided us with much wonderful music through a number of lock-downs. Sunday for some of them is their last Sunday as Choral Scholars and Organ Scholars in this place. We wish them well as they move on to the next stage in their careers, they go with our Blessing and with much gratitude.
Sunday also sees the Friends of Liverpool Cathedral AGM beginning with Festive Choral Evensong. We are so grateful to the Friends for their support over the past year.
Over the summer we intend to build back gently after the Prime Ministers announcement last Monday. We want to keep people safe and our arrangements for worship will reflect this. We will keep the chairs at a distance as they are now, we will not as yet re-institute the common cup and there will be a separate seating area for those who wish to keep to the COVID regulations we have been living with. We will also encourage people to wear masks and we have yet to determine what singing will look like. So please be assured we have your safety in mind as we come out of Covid restrictions.
This Sunday we thank God for so much, but most of all for the past ninety-seven years.

Almighty God, to whose glory we celebrate the consecration of this house of prayer: we praise you for the many blessings you have given to those who worship you here: and we pray that all who seek you in this place may find you, and, being filled with the Holy Spirit, may become a living temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Friends’ Evensong and AGM
Today, Consecration Sunday, the Cathedral Friends’ Festal Evensong will take place at 3pm. Canon Henry Corbett, Rector of Everton (St. Peter’s), will preach. Evensong will be followed by the Friends’ AGM at 4:15pm. Those wishing to attend the meeting following the service must book in advance owing to limited space. Supper with the Scriptures – “Acting on Acts”

Encountering Faith – “Revelation revealed”

Cathedral Confirmation Service – Sunday 7th November 2021
We are delighted that the Bishop of Liverpool will be joining us this November to preside at a Confirmation service. Confirmation is the occasion when we can confirm the promises made by us or for us at Baptism in a special service in which the Bishop lays hands on our heads to ask for God’s continuing blessing and anointing of the Holy Spirit. If you are interested in being confirmed, then please speak to Canon Philip, if you are part of the Music Department, or Canon Neal if you are part of the wider Cathedral community.
Peace Doves
We are currently hosting a major art installation, Peace Doves, crafted by artist Peter Walker, until the end of August. Over 13,000 white paper doves have been hung from the Well ceiling, each with prayers written on by worshippers and visitors. The installation is accompanied by the art installation, Peace to Ourselves, a large dove laid out on the Memorial Chapel floor, on which all are invited to place (provided) buttons in memory of a loved one. A Choir for Every Age
We are recruiting singers to our choirs: Cathedral Junior Choir (ages 6-11), Gilbert Scott Singers (11-18) and Liverpool64 (SATB choir for 18+). The Junior Choir and Gilbert Scott Singers are rehearsing in-person again, and Liverpool64 should be returning imminently. Micah Liverpool
Staff and volunteers at Micah wish to say thank you to the Cathedral congregation for their support throughout a quite demanding spring. At the moment we’re running low on UHT milk, toiletries, dry cereal, and pasta sauce. Donations can be received at the Constables’ Lodge or in the clear plastic boxes across from the Shop. Soon we’ll be able to welcome new volunteers once restrictions lift; anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to email nelson.pike@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk for more information and an application form.
