Urgent Appeal from Hope+
Liverpool's biggest food bank appeals for help after supplies run out
Hope+’s project manager, Nadine Daniel “Summer is always very busy at Hope+, but this year has been unprecedented. And today our worst nightmare happened. We ran out of food. It's not that we ran out because we fed three hundred people last week. We ran out because we have been feeding that number each and every week since June.
That means using over 300 packets of pasta each week, at least 600 tins of fish, and the same of meat, and other tinned goods.
Every week we buy in 100Kg of spuds and the same of onions, plus 10 boxes of bananas, 250 litres of milk and 30KG sugar.
We use over 4,000 tea bags per week.
School holidays can be a desperate time for low income families, dependant on free school meals. Think what the extra cost of that is. Especially when for many, this is the main meal of the day. Children of refugees also depend on free school meals. Add in the cost of "back to school" uniform and kit and you have what we see, desperate but proud parents. They hate coming to us for help, but they do. To have to then turn them away is so hard for them and for our wonderful volunteers.
We really need your help, we’re calling on the people of Liverpool to help fill our shelves, maybe they could consider buying a BOGOF offer and donating the additional item to Hope+.
Donations of tinned fish, pasta/rice, tinned meat, baked beans, tinned veg, toiletries (especially toothpaste and sanitary towels) a size four and five nappies would help refill our shelves.”
You can make your donation of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and clothes in the collection boxes in Liverpool Cathedral, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Quaker Meeting House, and Liverpool Parish Church.
