The Gilbert Scott Singers was re-launched in 2020 as a choir for boys and girls aged 11-18, and rehearses weekly on a Wednesday 6-7.15pm. It is well suited for those studying music at GCSE, BTEC or A-Level and for boys who's voices are amidst changing.
What Music Does the Choir Sing?
The Gilbert Scott Singers learn and perform a good mix of music from different genres. Some music is performed with music and some by memory. The choir spilts into three parts: soprano, alto and baritone. It gives several concerts each year in the Cathedral.
Choir Social Activities
Two older members of the choir are appointed as Gilbert Scott Reps. They play a big part in the planning and delivery of games and social activities for the choir. Each weekly rehearsal finishes with a game. The Reps act as role models and mentors for newer and younger members of the choir.
How Does a Child/Teenager Join?
Anyone aged 11-18 can audition to become a member of The Gilbert Scott Singers. We recruit all year round. It is expected that successful applicants will have experience of singing in a choir before, have at least a basic understanding of reading music, and preferably play an instrument too. Former members of the Junior Choir and Cathedral Choir do not need to auditiion. To arrange an audition please email Dr. Christopher Newton at email@example.com.
