"Hopeful Uncertainty" - Dr Shona Minson, from the Centre of Criminology at Oxford University, presents the 2023 Prisons Week Lecture

This year's lecture, ahead of the national Prisons Week of Prayer, is preceded by updates on the work of faith based charities working within the criminal justice system including Prison Fellowship and LDCSA, including Adelaide House Female Approved Premises, as it celebrates its 200th anniversary.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Shona Minson to present the Liverpool 2023 Prisons Week Lecture, entitled 'Hopeful Uncertainty'.

This year is the 200th Anniversary of LDCSA, which began when the founder was visited by her cousin, the great prison reformer Elizabeth Fry. In this lecture Dr Shona Minson will consider the legacy of Elizabeth Fry and the social problems she addressed through her changemaking work. With reference to her own aspirations for change, Shona will reflect on a decade of work to improve the situation for criminal justice involved mothers and their children. What are the challenges to change, and what can we learn from Elizabeth Fry and the women who’ve gone before us? Perhaps the biggest question for us to grapple with is this: how do we hold on to hope for change, and what can, and should we hope for?
