Set up to envelop the outside of Liverpool Cathedral, the People’s Path tells the story of those who’ve helped maintain and support one of the city’s most iconic buildings and your brick will continue this tradition.
When you buy a personalised brick in the People’s Path you become part of the Cathedral’s fabric and history. Engraved in gold lettering, your personalised message inscribed on your brick can celebrate a special occasion or date – weddings, christenings, graduations, birthdays or remember a loved one.
Your personalised message will be two lines and can be up to 16 characters long, and choose from two locations surrounding the outside of Liverpool Cathedral.*.
- West Gate near Cathedral Main Entrance - £225
- Sir Giles Gilbert Scott Suite - £175
Once you have submitted your order and payment, you'll get an inscription confirmation email from one of the Cathedral Team. When you get this email, you'll need to check your inscription is correct. You’ll have 14 days to get in touch with us if you need to make any changes.*
If your inscription is correct or you haven't contacted us, then two weeks later we will send your People's Path Certificate.

Money raised from the People's Path helps to keep the Cathedral free to visitors, supports the Cathedral’s development and work in the community.
Laying
Orders are taken year-round, and bricks will be laid three times a year, by the end of March, July and September. The deadline for last orders before each laying will be as follows:
- 1st February
- 1st June
- 1st August
In rare occasions, there may be times when we are unable to meet these deadlines due to bad weather, though all bricks will be on site. No layings occur over Winter as the cold at this time of year reduces the longevity of the bricks.
Services
You will also be invited to two People’s Path Dedication Services every year. These will be on the second Sunday before Mothering Sunday and the fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost every year.
In 2024 our services will be: 10th March and 1st September. In 2025 our services will be: 16th March and 21st September.
Join us for an uplifting service to celebrate the story of those who’ve helped maintain and support one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Details can be found here.

The stories of The People's Path
I bought a brick on the People's Path for my daughter who graduated from Liverpool John Moores, she is the first in my family to go to university and despite her disabilities, she lived her dream and got a degree in Drama. I also bought a brick next to Bronwyn’s for my mum Pat who was waiting outside the Lady Chapel door for Bronwyn, she was so proud of her and now she has passed away, Bronwyn and my mum will always be next to each other now.
My Father John Williams was born and brought up in Liverpool and it remained very important to him throughout his life. Having completed War Service, he returned to complete his Architectural degree at Liverpool University. Various career moves eventually led him to become the Borough Architect for Ellesmere Port and Neston where he was involved with Michael Heseltine in his role as Minister for Merseyside in the early 1980s. This resulted in two big projects in Ellesmere Port – the EPIC leisure centre and the evolution of the Thomas Telford warehouses into the Boat Museum. However, Liverpool with its rich culture and architectural achievements always remained close to his heart. The love of Liverpool was passed on to our son Alex Parry, even though he was born and brought up on the Wirral. My Dad and Alex were very close as Alex was growing up, and Dad was important in sharing stories and Liverpool’s rich history with him from a personal perspective. Alex has a pride in Liverpool and enjoys the amenities its offers – any celebrations are always held “over the water.” He graduated in 2018 and is currently completing a PGCE at John Moores University. Dad would have been very proud of his achievements. We wanted to mark the link between these two important people and the People’s Path provided a lasting memorial to both of them – sharing the importance of Liverpool and passing it from one generation to the next
I think it’s a lovely way of supporting the cathedral by providing funds. My family and I have 12-14 bricks between us all. Think that those people who walk past the path and stop to look, allows them to pray for those remembered or celebrated here
