This historic event has been observed every year without interruption\, taking place on the Saturday nearest to 18 October\, and continues a proud musical tradition at Liverpool Cathedral. \nThe recital follows Choral Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir\, just as it did on the organ’s original dedication day. \nThis recital will be given by Professor Ian Tracey\, Liverpool Cathedral’s Organist since 1980. At the time of his appointment\, Ian was the youngest cathedral organist in Britain. Over his distinguished career\, he has served as Organist to the City of Liverpool\, St George’s Hall\, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society\, as well as Professor and Organist at Liverpool John Moores University. \nThis performance forms part of our special Organ Centenary Series\, celebrating 100 years of our magnificent Willis Organ. Across the season\, we will host six exceptional recitals featuring world-class organists marking this historic milestone. \nA Fellow of multiple prestigious musical institutions\, Ian has received numerous honours for his contribution to music\, including the North West Arts Award for Classical Music and an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Liverpool. DESCRIPTION:“Is going to church good for your health?  The science\, theology and practice of Christian Flourishing” – Liverpool Cathedral (Concert Room)\, Thursday 19th November\, 2026\, 7-8:30pm.  Given by The Revd Dr Gillian Straine\, CEO of the Guild of Health and St Raphael (https://gohealth.org.uk/). \nBringing together science\, theology and Christian practice\, Gillian will consider what wellbeing and flourishing might really mean for people and communities of faith.  Gillian comes to us courtesy of the Montgomery Trust. \nGillian’s work and executive role is for an ecumenical Christian organisation whose vision is to enable and encourage churches to be healing presences in the world for the benefit of all; working to promote spiritual healing as part of a whole person approach to health. \nTrained to doctoral level in Physics and with a master’s degree in theology from Oxford University\, Gillian is passionate about engaging with others on these subjects.  She is an elected fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion\, a trustee of the Christian Evidence Society\, chairperson for the Science and Religion Forum and a visiting scholar at Sarum college within the Centre for Human Flourishing. \nThe Liverpool Cathedral Gilbert Scott Lectures on Science and Faith held its first series in 2019; the 140th anniversary of the birth of Dr Sebastian Gilbert Scott – brother of Liverpool Cathedral’s architect\, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.  Sebastian was an internationally renowned physician and radiologist based in London. \nMore information about the series\, and links to previous lectures and events\, can be found here. \nBook here

DESCRIPTION:The Above and Beyond Tour is your chance to venture into unseen areas of Liverpool Cathedral. \nOur cathedral is a national architectural treasure\, and thousands enjoy exploring it each week. It has many hidden corners – areas that are usually ‘off limits’ to the general public. That is about to change as we launch our ‘Above & Beyond’ guided tours. In small groups\, you will be guided through the Cathedral from top to bottom by our expert guides\, including a trip up to the top of the tower. \nLength: Approximately 2 hours (All tours begin at 12:00pm)\nCost: £25 per person plus booking fee \nBook your place \n\nPlease arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour start time at The Welcome Desk\nThe tour includes many steps along with some very narrow passages so regrettably\, the tour cannot accommodate those who might have issues with those challenges.\nThe tour may not be suitable for those who have mobility issues or who are Acrophobic or Claustrophobic.\nAll participants must be 14 years or older.\nNew dates will be added every few weeks\, so please check back if your preferred dates are not yet available.\nTickets are sold as non-returnable and non-refundable.\nThis programme is subject to change with no notice.
