Join us in commemorating a century of history and heritage as we celebrate the centenary of Liverpool Cathedral! From June 4th to August 31st, the entrance foyer of the Museum of Liverpool will host a special exhibition, highlighting significant moments from the past 100 years through artefacts from the Cathedral Archives.
This unique display will delve into the rich history of Liverpool Cathedral, featuring fascinating artefacts that have shaped our journey. Among the highlights are three of our stunning stained glass windows: the Benedicite, the Laymen’s Window, and the window in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Each window tells its own story, representing the artistic and spiritual legacy of the cathedral.
The Benedicite Window, with its vibrant depictions of all creation praising God, the Laymen’s Window, celebrating the contributions of the laity to the church, and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit Window, symbolizing the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, are all integral parts of our heritage.
In addition to these historical windows, we are thrilled to showcase the winning designs from our recent Stained Glass Windows Designing Competition. The Eurovision 2023-inspired masterpiece by Grace Gregory from Yew Tree Primary Academy and the Malala Yusafzai design by Isabel Cummings from St Hilda’s CE High School will be on display. These contemporary pieces highlight the vibrant creativity of young artists in our community and their connection to the cathedral’s ongoing legacy.
Visitors are welcome to explore this display during the museum’s normal opening hours. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with the history and artistry of Liverpool Cathedral and to appreciate the profound impact it has had on our community over the past century.
