Upgrading the Sound System
The first phase of upgrading the sound system has taken place with a new console, controls and wiring back to the existing speakers. This has enabled us to start reusing the main system and, in many places, we have noticed a marked improvement in sound quality.
This is still a work in progress. As such we have inevitably encountered some areas where the sound is not so great and most significantly, we note that those with hearing aids had problems last Sunday. The verger team have worked well with NoiseBoys, our approved sound contractor, to resolve them. We are hoping the same issues don’t occur this week but if they do then we will continue to work to get them right. As part of the project, we are also bringing in a new loop amplifier as we recognise that the cathedral’s system has been faulty for years.
Phase One has involved linking to our existing systems so that we can resolve some of the problems when the system failed earlier this year. We have ordered new speakers which need to be made in a way sympathetic to the building. When we have them, then we expect further improvements in sound quality. We will update you as progress is made but please bear with us as it settles in.
We would like to thank the generosity of so many who have enabled us to invest in this system. We would also like to thank the Vergers for working hard to understand its workings. We can see improvements already, and we fully believe this will make a vast difference to sound quality at the cathedral
