Pentecost 2026: Many Voices – One Faith
This May, Christians from across the region are invited to come together for one of Liverpool’s most uplifting and visible expressions of faith – the Pentecost: Two Cathedrals March.
Taking place on Sunday 24 May 2026 (3:00–5:00 pm), this annual event brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and denominations to celebrate the festival of Pentecost in the heart of the city.
What is Pentecost?
Pentecost marks the moment when the early Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit, took their message out into the world with confidence, energy and joy. It is often seen as the birth of the Church – a moment of boldness, unity and shared purpose.
This spirit of openness and togetherness continues to inspire the Two Cathedrals March today.
A Liverpool tradition
Inspired by the visit of Pope John Paul II to Liverpool in 1982, the march has become a cherished annual tradition, bringing together Christian communities from across Merseyside.
The event this year begins at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, before participants walk together along Hope Street to Liverpool Cathedral – a powerful and symbolic journey between the two cathedrals.
2026 Theme: Many Voices – One Faith
This year’s theme, “Many Voices – One Faith,” reflects the rich diversity of Christian life across the region, while celebrating the unity that brings us together.
The 2026 march is also inspired by the Manifesto for Hope, encouraging individuals and communities to come together in a spirit of hope, faith and shared witness.
