Elijah Comes to Liverpool Cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral is set to host a spectacular performance of one of the greatest works in the choral repertoire, as Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah is brought to life in the breathtaking surroundings of Liverpool Cathedral.
This powerful and dramatic oratorio tells the story of the prophet Elijah, as depicted in the Old Testament books of Kings. Through moments of deep faith, struggle and divine encounter, Mendelssohn’s rich and expressive score creates a moving and unforgettable musical journey.
This special full-work performance will bring together the Liverpool Cathedral Choir alongside a massed choir of singers from across the North West, filling the Cathedral with an extraordinary depth of sound. The scale and ambition of this collaboration promise a truly memorable experience for audiences.
The role of Elijah will be performed by Andrew Greenan, joined by an outstanding line-up of soloists: Kelsey Thomas, Joyce Tindsley and Stefan Kennedy. The performance will be accompanied by the Liverpool Concert Orchestra, with the Cathedral organ played by Ian Tracey in what will be one of his final major performances before he retires later this year, making this an especially significant and poignant occasion.
Set within one of the UK’s most awe-inspiring sacred spaces, this is a rare opportunity to experience Elijah in a setting that enhances both its drama and its beauty.
Whether you are a seasoned lover of choral music or discovering this masterpiece for the first time, this promises to be an evening of stirring music and powerful storytelling.
