Liverpool Cathedral is proud to be part of the 13th edition of Liverpool Biennial: BEDROCK, the UK’s largest contemporary visual arts festival. Inspired by Liverpool’s sandstone foundations and the beliefs that shape the city, this year’s festival will showcase groundbreaking contemporary art across the city, featuring newly commissioned works, outdoor installations, and exhibitions in unexpected spaces.

At Liverpool Cathedral – a monumental sandstone landmark revealing the very bedrock of the city – we host two internationally acclaimed artists exploring themes of sanctuary, heritage, and nature:

Ana Navas – In the Lady Chapel, Navas presents striking ‘glass collages’ inspired by the colors and forms found in historical portraits of women. A newly commissioned piece draws from Liverpool Cathedral’s archives, paying tribute to generations of local women’s embroidery and craftsmanship.

Maria Loizidou – A large-scale crocheted installation, co-commissioned by Liverpool Cathedral, will hang within the space, featuring hand-embroidered migratory birds native to Merseyside. Loizidou’s work invites reflection on migration, coexistence, and survival in an ever-changing world.

Explore More:

  • Over 30 artists & collectives, with 22 newly commissioned works
