All are welcome.
The liturgy begins by commemorating Christ washing the disciples feet at the Last Supper, before moving into a time of silent reflection – the Watch.
The final three days of Holy Week begin with a celebration of the eucharist, remembering the Last Supper, and Christ’s betrayal. The service finishes in silence, keeping Watch with the imprisoned Christ.
The name ‘Maundy’ comes from a Latin word – ‘mandatum’ – meaning ‘commandment’, because at the Last Supper Christ told his disciples ‘Love one another as I have loved you’. He shared a final symbolic meal with them, and later that night was betrayed, arrested, and imprisoned.
