Vacancy in See update: Election of Crown Nominations Commission members

Welcome > News > Vacancy in See update: Election of Crown Nominations Commission members
Posted on May 22, 2026

We are pleased to announce that the Vacancy in See Committee has elected the six diocesan representatives who will join the Crown Nominations Commission (CNC). This is an important step in the discernment of the next Bishop of Liverpool.

The elected representatives are:

  • Richard Denno
  • The Venerable Pete Spiers
  • Angela Matthewson
  • The Revd Andrew Stott
  • Gabriel Chiu
  • The Revd Tabitha Rao

The Very Revd, Dr Sue Jones, Dean of Liverpool and Chair of the Vacancy in See Committee said: “It has been good to see such a knowledgeable and diverse committee work collaboratively to produce a comprehensive and thoughtful Statement of Needs. The committee has worked hard to articulate the needs and aspirations of the Diocese, and the task now falls to the six members elected to join the Crown Nominations Commission to take this forward and help secure the best possible Bishop for Liverpool. We hope and pray for their success. ”

The Statement of Needs will be published in the coming weeks. We ask for your continued prayers for all those involved in the Vacancy in See, and especially for the members of the Crown Nominations Commission as they undertake this important work.

Our Prayer during the Vacancy in See

Loving God, guide the Diocese of Liverpool in this time of discernment. Grant wisdom, grace and patience to all who are involved in this time of discernment. Help us to listen well, speak honestly and seek your will for the future of this diocese. Prepare the heart of the one you are calling to serve as our next Bishop of Liverpool. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
