To mark the centenary of Liverpool Cathedral’s consecration, we are excited to present the special exhibition, “100 Years Since the Consecration,” showcasing artefacts from the Cathedral Archive that reflect the life and work of those connected to this extraordinary place.
Taking place in the Memorial Chapel from 1st October – 23rd October, this exhibition celebrates the skilled craftsmanship that has shaped the Cathedral over the last century. From the intricate work of stone masons, stone carvers, and sculptors, to the rarely-seen medals and glasswork, the exhibit offers a fascinating look at the artistry and dedication behind this architectural masterpiece.
Highlights include:
- Glasswork through the ages, featuring pieces collected after the Blitz in 1941, an apprentice piece by Alfred Fisher (an ex-chorister turned Master Glazier), and two modern stained glass pieces designed in 2024 by local schoolgirls and created by Master Glazier Jonathan Cooke.
- A tribute to Tommy Murphy, the last Stone Carver, who dedicated 40 years of his life to the Cathedral, working alongside architect Giles Gilbert Scott and continuing his craft well into his 70s.
Join us in celebrating the incredible history of Liverpool Cathedral through this unique collection of treasures.
