Anish Kapoor at Liverpool Cathedral: A Centenary Celebration

Anish Kapoor, renowned for his iconic works like Cloud Gate in Chicago and the Orbit Tower at the Olympic Stadium in London, has been a transformative figure in the art world for over four decades. This upcoming exhibition marks his first solo display in a UK cathedral and his first return to the North-West since his show at the Walker Art Gallery in 1983.

A Journey Through Kapoor’s Vision

Titled ‘Monadic Singularity’ , symbolising key moments in life: birth, marriage, and death. Liverpool Cathedral, the UK’s largest cathedral, provides a majestic backdrop for this thematic exploration. Visitors will embark on a journey through the cathedral’s stunning spaces, experiencing large-scale installations and intimate works alike.

One highlight will be the massive installation in the Well, confronting visitors with a profound reminder of our existence on Earth. The Main Space will feature a breathtaking wax sculpture, while other works will grace the Lady Chapel and the Ambulatory, creating a dialogue between contemporary art and gothic architecture.

Reflecting on Life and Spirituality

In our increasingly digital and disconnected world, Kapoor’s works invite reflection and a deeper exploration of spirituality—topics at the heart of Liverpool Cathedral’s daily services and worship. Featuring pieces from the past 25 years, some never before shown in the UK, this exhibition is a must-see for art lovers and spiritual seekers alike.
