Noel at Liverpool Cathedral

Welcome > Plan your visit > Noel at Liverpool Cathedral

A world premiere Christmas light and sound experience by Luxmuralis

Step back in time and rediscover the magic of Christmas.

This winter, experience Christmas like never before as Liverpool Cathedral is transformed by renowned artists Luxmuralis into one of the world’s largest interior light and sound installations.

Noel is a spectacular world premiere created especially for Liverpool Cathedral, taking visitors on an unforgettable journey through the story, traditions and wonder of Christmas using breathtaking projections, immersive soundscapes and the Cathedral’s awe-inspiring architecture.

From moments of peaceful reflection to dazzling displays of light, Noel invites you to slow down, reconnect and experience the season’s greatest story in one of the UK’s most iconic buildings.

Find a moment of peace. Discover a world of wonder. Experience Noel.

A journey through Christmas

As you make your way through the Cathedral, each space reveals a different chapter of the Christmas story.

The Nave – The First Noel

Step into the Cathedral’s magnificent Nave, where soaring Byzantine-inspired projections bring the Nativity story vividly to life across the vast architecture.

Surrounded by an original immersive soundtrack featuring a beautiful reimagining of The First Noel, visitors are invited to pause, sit beneath the illuminated ceiling and experience the Cathedral from an entirely new perspective.

Capture a festive family photograph beneath Liverpool Cathedral’s iconic Christmas trees before continuing your journey through this extraordinary celebration of light and sound.

Christmas Past

In the Well, Noel takes visitors on a nostalgic journey through Christmases gone by.

Discover projections inspired by traditional decorations, treasured toys and festive memories that have shaped generations. Accompanied by a contemporary reworking of The Nutcracker Suite, this atmospheric installation celebrates the warmth, joy and heritage of Christmas traditions.

Constellation

Making its debut this year is Constellation, a brand-new collaborative artwork created with celebrated sculptor Peter Walker.

Suspended within the Cathedral, thousands of delicate paper stars come together to create a glowing celestial sculpture. Each star carries a personal message of hope, love or reflection written by visitors, families and schoolchildren, forming a beautiful collective artwork that celebrates community, kindness and togetherness.

A Cathedral transformed

As you continue your journey, projections of festive patterns, seasonal imagery and rich colour illuminate almost every corner of Liverpool Cathedral, transforming one of Europe’s largest cathedrals into an extraordinary canvas of light.

Created exclusively for Liverpool Cathedral, Noel blends cutting-edge digital art with centuries of architecture to create a Christmas experience unlike any other.

An unforgettable festive tradition

Following the phenomenal success of previous Luxmuralis installations, Noel continues Liverpool Cathedral’s tradition of presenting internationally acclaimed immersive experiences that inspire audiences of all ages.

Whether you’re visiting with family, friends or simply looking for a peaceful moment during the festive season, Noel offers an experience filled with beauty, storytelling and wonder.

Come together beneath soaring stone arches, lose yourself in breathtaking projections and celebrate the joy of Christmas in one of the UK’s most spectacular buildings.
