Liverpool Cathedral Choir

Welcome > Cathedral Music > Our Choirs > Liverpool Cathedral Choir

The Liverpool Cathedral Choir serves the cathedral by singing the music at the six sung services each week during term time. The choir also sings at several high-profile civic services across the year, gives radio broadcasts, makes professional recordings, and embarks on choir tours in the UK and abroad.

The Cathedral Choir is made up of:

  • A Boys’ Choir
  • A Girls’ Choir
  • Choral Students
  • Professional Lay Clerks & Choral Scholars

How can my child become a Cathedral Chorister?

At the end of each school year, we audition new boys and girls. Those who are successful at audition take up choristerships in the choir. At the point of audition, we are looking for children who have a musical ear, can sing in tune, and who love to sing.

Boys can audition when in school years 2-5.

Girls can audition when in school year 5.

To arrange an audition for your child, please complete this short form Chorister Auditions for the Liverpool Cathedral Choir – Fill in form here

Lay Clerks

The Lay Clerks are paid professionals with formidable musicianship and extensive experience of singing in the field of church music. They are permanent singers in the Cathedral Choir. At any one time, there are six Lay Clerks across the alto, tenor, and bass voices.

Professional Deputy Singers

In the case of needing to arrange cover for absences of our regular adult singers, or when we need to bring extra singers in for an event, we have a list of Deputy Singers who we can contact. To be included on this list, a singer may arrange an audition or have clearly demonstrable experience. Deputy Singers are over the age of 18, and must go through a process of Safer Recruitment with the Diocese of Liverpool before being confirmed in this role.

To register your interest in becoming a Deputy Singer, please complete this short form Apply to become a Deputy Singer – Fill in form
