Exploring Infinite Encounters: A Journey Through Art at Liverpool Cathedral

Welcome > News > Exploring Infinite Encounters: A Journey Through Art at Liverpool Cathedral
Posted on May 1, 2024

Liverpool Cathedral is proud to present “Infinite Encounters,” an extraordinary exhibition that invites visitors to embark on a sensory journey through contemporary art. From May 10th to June 2nd, 2024, our iconic cathedral becomes a vibrant hub of creativity, offering an immersive experience that celebrates the beauty of human expression.

A Celebration of Sensory Exploration

“Infinite Encounters” is more than just an art exhibition; it’s an invitation to engage with art in new and exciting ways. Curated as part of our centenary celebrations, this group exhibition welcomes visitors to interact with a diverse range of artworks, each offering a unique sensorial experience.

Connecting with the World Around Us

At the heart of “Infinite Encounters” is the idea of connection – connection to our surroundings, to each other, and to the natural world. Through a series of interactive installations, sculptures, and video works, visitors are encouraged to explore themes of nature, identity, and community.

Art Spotlights

Among the highlights of the exhibition are several captivating artworks that showcase the diversity of artistic expression:

  • Zero to Infinity by Rasheed Araeen: Araeen’s interactive sculpture challenges traditional notions of art, inviting visitors to rearrange its colourful wooden cubes and explore concepts of geometry and collaboration.
  • Holodeck Programme 106 by Frances Disley: Disley’s immersive installation transports visitors into a world of relaxation and botanical beauty, encouraging playful interaction through games and puzzles.
  • The Host and the Symbiont by Frances Disley: This scented sculpture celebrates harmony in nature, prompting reflection on humanity’s relationship with the natural world and the transformative power of local plants.
  • Mutable Worlds by Myriam Thyes: Thyes’ video animation offers a playful reinterpretation of traditional world maps, challenging viewers to reconsider their perceptions of geography and geopolitics.
  • Horizon by Neringa Naujokaite: Naujokaite’s video explores themes of longing and perspective, inviting viewers on a journey of self-discovery through the sights and sounds of Chongqing, China.

Join Us for Infinite Encounters

We invite you to join us for a journey of discovery at “Infinite Encounters.” Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply curious to explore something new, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Liverpool Cathedral’s latest exhibition.
