All Aboard for a Magical Christmas: Free Family Rail Travel with Merseyrail and Liverpool Cathedral!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting festive news! Merseyrail is partnering with Liverpool Cathedral to offer FREE rail travel for families across the Merseyrail network on Monday, 1 December 2025.

It’s the perfect opportunity to experience The Light Before Christmas: The Gift – our breathtaking new light and sound spectacular created by the award-winning artistic collective, Luxmuralis. This year’s show promises to fill our magnificent Gothic space with warmth, wonder and festive spirit, as it tells a brand-new story of The Gift.

So why not make a day of it? Hop on the train, enjoy a winter stroll through the city, grab a festive treat from our Welsford Bistro, and then step inside the Cathedral for an unforgettable evening of light, music and magic.

How to claim your free rail tickets:
Families (up to 2 adults and 3 children) can claim their FREE Family Rail Ticket by completing the form at the link below before 12pm on Thursday 27 November:
