Reach New Heights for a Good Cause: The Cathedral Abseil is Back!

Welcome > News > Reach New Heights for a Good Cause: The Cathedral Abseil is Back!
Posted on June 11, 2025

For over a decade, thrill-seekers from across the region have taken on the unforgettable challenge of abseiling 150ft down the iconic Liverpool Cathedral. Suspended in a free hang descent from above the Great West Door, our Cathedral Abseils offer more than just an adrenaline rush, they’re a chance to raise vital funds for causes close to the heart.

Each year, hundreds of brave participants take the leap, facing fears or simply embracing the excitement, all while fundraising for charity. In 2024, our community raised an incredible £180,000 for 28 charities, including household names like Claire House Children’s Hospice, Alder Hey Children’s Charity, and The Whitechapel Centre.

Looking Ahead to 2025

This year, local organisations such as St Joseph’s Hospice, Rainbow Hub, Sahir House, and St Michael’s Church in Garston will receive much-needed support. Whether it’s providing end-of-life care, supporting young people with neurological conditions, creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ communities, or serving local parish needs, every charity partner makes a huge impact and every abseiler helps make that happen.

We’re thrilled to announce that our 2025 Cathedral Abseils will take place across four weekends in July, giving even more people the chance to take part in one of Liverpool’s most iconic charity challenges.

Want to Abseil?

Most places are allocated through our charity partners, who recruit participants to fundraise on their behalf. The list of participating charities is updated bi-weekly, so keep checking back if you’re looking for a specific cause.

If you represent a charity and would like to secure abseil places, you can sign up through our Charity Registration Form.

Would you like to take part and support a different charity of your choice? Simply complete our Expression of Interest Form or reach out to us at fundraising@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk – we’d love to hear from you.

Have Questions?

First-time abseiler? Wondering about safety measures or what to wear? We’ve got you covered. Head over to our Abseil FAQs page for all the answers you need.

Thank You

To every participant, donor, volunteer, and charity who took part in 2024 – thank you. Your courage and compassion help change lives. We can’t wait to welcome the next wave of abseilers in 2025. Will you be one of them?
