Celebrating Volunteers’ Week at Liverpool Cathedral

Welcome > News > Celebrating Volunteers’ Week at Liverpool Cathedral
Posted on June 1, 2026

This Volunteers’ Week, we are celebrating and thanking the incredible volunteers who help make Liverpool Cathedral such a welcoming, inspiring and vibrant place for thousands of people every year.

From greeting visitors at the door to sharing fascinating stories on guided tours, supporting worship, assisting with events, helping within the Music Department and offering a warm smile to those seeking peace or comfort, our volunteers are at the very heart of Cathedral life.

The People Behind Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral welcomes people from across the world every day. Some come as tourists exploring one of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks, others come to worship, attend concerts, light a candle, enjoy a tour or simply find a quiet moment away from the busy city.

Our volunteers help make all of this possible.

Their generosity, dedication and kindness help us continue to care for the UK’s largest cathedral while creating a warm and welcoming experience for every visitor who walks through our doors.

A Community at the Heart of the Cathedral

Volunteering at Liverpool Cathedral is about more than giving time – it’s about becoming part of a community.

Many of our volunteers have formed lasting friendships while sharing their passion for Liverpool, history, music, architecture and faith with visitors from around the world.

Whether supporting one of our major events, helping visitors discover hidden stories during tours, or assisting behind the scenes, every volunteer plays an important role in the life of the Cathedral.

Supporting Liverpool Cathedral

As a charity, Liverpool Cathedral relies on the support of volunteers, visitors, donors and supporters to continue its work.

Volunteers help us:

  • Welcome visitors from around the globe
  • Deliver tours and events
  • Support worship and music
  • Preserve and share Liverpool’s history
  • Keep the Cathedral open as a safe and welcoming place for all

Their contribution helps ensure this extraordinary building continues to serve the city of Liverpool and future generations for years to come.
