Join our community sustaining one of the world’s greatest buildings

On the birthday of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the visionary architect behind Liverpool Cathedral, we are proud to launch the Scott Circle… a new way to support and safeguard this remarkable place.

Liverpool Cathedral is more than bricks, glass, and stone. For over a century, it has been a place where people gather to pray, to grieve, to celebrate, to listen to music that lifts the heart, and to marvel at architecture that inspires awe. It stands as a symbol of hope and welcome for our city and far beyond.

But behind the soaring arches and glowing windows lies a challenge: it costs over £1 million every single year just to keep the doors open, the lights shining, and this vast building safe and warm. Every single day, it is only thanks to the generosity of people like you that this great Cathedral remains alive, we truly are built by the people, for the people.

That is why we have created the Scott Circle.
Named in honour of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, it is a community of supporters who believe this Cathedral must be cared for, not only for today, but for generations to come.

Choose your place in the Circle

We’ve named each giving level after the very materials that hold the Cathedral together:

  • Sandstone (£5 p/m or £60 p/a): The bedrock of our Cathedral, echoing the generosity of the people of Liverpool who built it piece by piece.
  • Oak (£20 p/m or £240 p/a): Strong, enduring support that helps us weather every season.
  • Glass (£80 p/m or £960 p/a): Lighting up all that goes on in our building.
  • Marble (from £1,500 p/a): A mark of beauty and permanence, sustaining the Cathedral at the highest level.

Every gift, at every level, helps sustain Liverpool Cathedral’s daily life.

Your place in the Circle

As a member of the Scott Circle, you’ll be welcomed more deeply into the life of Liverpool Cathedral, discovering the hidden work that keeps this great building alive each day. This is more than a giving scheme – it’s a community of people who love this Cathedral and want to see it shine for the next 100 years.

Benefits include:

  • Sandstone – Bi-annual postcard, supporter newsletter, online Roll of Honour
  • Oak – Plus exhibition previews, behind-the-scenes tours and archive talks
  • Glass – Plus invitation to our annual Supporters’ Supper in the Lady Chapel
