Standing in Solidarity: Liverpool Cathedral Hosts Inaugural Ecumenical LOUDFence Event

Welcome > News > Standing in Solidarity: Liverpool Cathedral Hosts Inaugural Ecumenical LOUDFence Event
Posted on February 23, 2024

In a remarkable demonstration of unity and support, Liverpool Cathedral is proud to host the first annual Ecumenical LoudFENCE Event on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

This groundbreaking initiative, a collaboration between the Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool and the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool, seeks to provide healing and support for all those affected by harm and abuse.

The event starts with a moving ribbon-tying ceremony outside Liverpool Cathedral at 12:30 pm, followed by a Non-Denominational Blessing at 1:30 pm. Participants will then embark on a symbolic walk along Hope Street, culminating at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Here, a Prayer Service and ribbon-tying ceremony will offer attendees a chance to stand in solidarity with victims and survivors of abuse.

Open and free to all who have experienced or been affected by any form of harm or abuse, including domestic, faith-based, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse, the Ecumenical LoudFENCE Event encourages attendees to tie a ribbon as a powerful symbol of support. Whether as survivors or allies, everyone is encouraged to attend and extend their support to those in need.

Following the inaugural event, both cathedrals will engage in three days of prayer and reflection for victims and survivors of abuse. This includes the distribution of prayer cards and the availability of safeguarding staff and trained listeners at both locations.

Antonia Sobocki, Senior Director of LoudFENCE, emphasizes the importance of compassion and support in addressing past traumas. “Churches of every denomination and wider society cannot undo the abuse which has been inflicted on the innocent in the past,” she states, “but as followers of Christ, we can choose the way of compassion, care, and support now.”

Liverpool Cathedral invites all members of the community to join in this impactful day of solidarity and healing. Let us come together to make our voices of care and compassion heard, and to stand in support of those who need it most.

Together, let’s make a difference,

Liverpool Cathedral
