Liverpool Cathedral is a place of encounter. You may be a visitor who will encounter a warm welcome inspired by our Christian beliefs. Or, you may wish to encounter God in a deeper way by getting more involved. However you wish to explore faith. We hope this section will help you on your journey to exploring faith and looking up to god.
Explore Your Faith
Here at Liverpool Cathedral, we would love for you to explore your faith and encounter God. Our dedicated and knowledgeable team has developed a range of resources to help you with that encounter.
This page explores some of these resources.
Alpha is an introduction to the Christian faith for everyone, especially those wanting to explore faith for the first time, or go back to the basics.

Please join us for our 2025 Lent Course, entitled ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Pope Francis has called 2025 a ‘Year of Jubilee’ – an opportunity for spiritual refreshment by re-engaging with what the Bible has to say about ‘Jubilee’, with its strong themes of justice and liberty.
There are six main themes commended for study in this Jubilee year and they are grouped under the heading ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Our Lent Course will take these themes as the headings for six studies throughout Lent. All our sessions will be on Wednesday evenings, on Zoom, 7.30pm – 9.00pm. Anyone is welcome to join. We begin on 5th March (Ash Wednesday), take a break on 12th March, then reconvene on 19th March through to 16th April.
The dates and themes are:
5th March The Sabbath and the Sabbatical Year
19th March Justice, trust and memory
26th March The Household Unit
2nd April Forgiveness and Freedom in the New Testament
9th April Jubilee and Jesus
16th April Caring for our Communities
For more information, please email Canon Neal at neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk
We look forward to welcoming you on our hopeful pilgrimage through Lent!
Later this year, we will be hosting The Bible Course on Zoom. This course is a great introduction to the Scriptures. Rather than looking deeply into chapters of text, this course gives an overview of the Bible from a historical perspective asking, “Who wrote it?”, “How old is it?”, etc.
Sign up to the course by emailing: neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk
Prayer is all about communicating with God. There is no magical formula for prayer, and no special phrases or words are required. We believe that God wants to hear from us, whatever is happening in our lives, and at Liverpool Cathedral, we offer a range of options to join in Prayer.
Baptism and confirmation are milestones in the Christian faith.
Baptism welcomes us into the family of God, and confirmation is a chance for us to affirm the promises we made at baptism and receive the power of the Holy Spirit for the journey to come.
You are welcome to start your faith journey with us at the Cathedral, or take a new leap of faith. Join us for worship on Sundays and speak to a member of clergy about baptism or confirmation.
An initiative from Liverpool Cathedral, working with the St. Mary’s Centre, to offer individuals, households, and churches to encounter the gospel reading set each Sunday through the year.
The material is released in the week before the gospel is read and looked at, so that we can be prepared to hear it, reflect on it, and apply the teachings and example of Jesus in our daily lives.
Each Sunday there is a ‘concrete’ image around which we can think. It contains activities that people of all ages can engage with as we allow God’s word to shape us.
What we believe
Liverpool Cathedral is a place of encounter. We long for everyone who encounters this Cathedral and its many communities to encounter the God who knows and loves them. We believe that God is love and seeks a relationship of love with every person and with the whole creation. God has chosen to reveal that love supremely through the person of Jesus Christ.
