Alpha Course
Alpha is a chance to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. Whether you’re new to faith, have questions, or just want to go back to basics, Alpha is for you.
Each session involves plenty of time to chat. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and completely free. You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience – just bring yourself and your questions. There’s no pressure, and no such thing as a silly question. Everyone’s opinion is respected.
Alpha course begins on 30th September 2025 and will run for 8 sessions (with a break mid-way), with the final session taking place on 25th November. Sessions will run from 7.30pm to 8.45pm.

‘Recruited to Serve in a Strange Place’ – Bible Studies
A series of studies on the Old Testament book of Daniel
Please join us for our ‘deep-dive’ Bible study series on the book of Daniel, which is unique in the Old Testament. It contains some historical references, prophetic-shaped pronouncements and apocalyptic literature (ie revealing things about the future, including the ‘end’ times). Its 12 chapters contain remarkable stories about Daniel and his friends. They find themselves exiled from their native homeland (in modern-day Israel) to Babylon (in modern-day Iraq), one of the greatest empires of the time. How will they survive, live and thrive in a land where Yahweh (God) is not honoured? Daniel is given remarkable opportunities to speak truth to power! And he also is the conduit for several amazing dreams and visions of the future. Some of these are very much looking forward to the New Testament, to the coming of Jesus and the end-times as described in the book of Revelation; the last book in the Bible.
There are eight sessions in our Daniel series (split into two 4-part series with a week’s break in between).
There will be two identical streams, running in parallel:
- Sunday mornings starting on 5th October, 9.15-10.00am, which will be in person in the Cathedral. Enabling participants to attend either the 8.30am Communion beforehand or the 10.30am Choral Eucharist afterwards.
- Monday evenings, on Zoom, starting on 6th October, 7.30pm – 9.00pm. Anyone is welcome to join. The Zoom login details will be sent out each week during the course via the discipleship mailing list. All emails are blind-copied, to comply with GDPR.
For more information and to sign up for our discipleship mailing list, please email Canon Neal at: neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk
Later this year, we will be hosting The Bible Course on Zoom. This course is a great introduction to the Scriptures. Rather than looking deeply into chapters of text, this course gives an overview of the Bible from a historical perspective asking, “Who wrote it?”, “How old is it?”, etc.
Sign up to the course by emailing: neal.barnes@liverpoolcathedral.org.uk
Prayer is all about communicating with God. There is no magical formula for prayer, and no special phrases or words are required. We believe that God wants to hear from us, whatever is happening in our lives, and at Liverpool Cathedral, we offer a range of options to join in Prayer.
Baptism and confirmation are milestones in the Christian faith.
Baptism welcomes us into the family of God, and confirmation is a chance for us to affirm the promises we made at baptism and receive the power of the Holy Spirit for the journey to come.
You are welcome to start your faith journey with us at the Cathedral, or take a new leap of faith. Join us for worship on Sundays and speak to a member of clergy about baptism or confirmation.
An initiative from Liverpool Cathedral, working with the St. Mary’s Centre, to offer individuals, households, and churches to encounter the gospel reading set each Sunday through the year.
The material is released in the week before the gospel is read and looked at, so that we can be prepared to hear it, reflect on it, and apply the teachings and example of Jesus in our daily lives.
Each Sunday there is a ‘concrete’ image around which we can think. It contains activities that people of all ages can engage with as we allow God’s word to shape us.
What we believe
Liverpool Cathedral is a place of encounter. We long for everyone who encounters this Cathedral and its many communities to encounter the God who knows and loves them. We believe that God is love and seeks a relationship of love with every person and with the whole creation. God has chosen to reveal that love supremely through the person of Jesus Christ.
